After its first ever commercial flight on 28 April, 2021, Houston, Texas-based Avelo Airlines has been steadily expanding its route network in the United States.
Starting today, 6 May, Avelo Airlines will be upping its air travel game by commencing new flights between New Haven, Connecticut (HVN), and both Savannah, Georgia (SAV) and Nashville, Tennessee (BNA).
Savannah’s airport, which also serves as a base for Hilton Head Island in South Carolina under an hour away, will be served Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Savannah is known for its colonial charm and tree-lined streets, while Hilton Head is most famous for its golf resorts. The block time — that is, the estimated time from gate to gate — is two hours and twenty minutes.
Nashville, one of the U.S.’s fastest-growing airports, is best known as Music City, the home of honky-tonk and the Grand Ole Opry. Known for a laid-back feel and Southern food, the city continues to attract new residents and visitors alike; in fact, just in 2017, Nashville had more construction cranes than any other city in the United States (if you’re curious, Los Angeles is the current crown-holder).
Avelo Airlines’ new route from New Haven to Nashville has a block time of two hours and twenty-five minutes, and will also operate Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
At this time, the LCC, or “low-cost carrier” has hubs in Burbank, California (BUR), Orlando, Florida (MCO), and New Haven. Avelo Airlines is currently focused on folks from the Northeastern and Pacific Northwest who are looking for traditional sunny destinations in California and Florida, as well as family-friendly spots in the South and Midwest.
But don’t overlook New Haven, either. They’ve got both the Yale Peabody Museum, and delicious pizza on Wooster Street. Plus, they’ve got a Brutalist landmark that was converted into the Hotel Marcel, which is purportedly the first net-zero (zero carbon emissions) hotel in the country.
