Good news for citizens of the United States, Australia, and Canada: “Brazil postpones visa requirements” is a headline once again.
Originally slated to begin in October 2023, the reintroduction of visas was first moved back to 10 January. Now, the start date is being pushed back even further.
Now, it looks like 10 April will be the first day where visas are reinstated for U.S., Australian, and Canadian travelers.
Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro put the kibosh on tourism visas for those three countries in 2019. However, current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is bringing them back, since the United States, Australia, and Canada have continued to require them for Brazilians.
In spite of the visa requirement returning, the key takeaway is that Brazil postpones visa requirements for a second time.
When we will finally have to reapply for tourist visas, here is the official link:
https://brazil.vfsevisa.com/. The cost will be US$80.90, and the visa will be valid for 10 years for U.S. passports, and five years for Australian and Canadian passports. There are a few extra documents that will be required for the application, but it’s still a good deal.
And before you return from Brazil, pick up some neat edible souvenirs at one of its airport supermarkets; I highly recommend the pão de queijo.
