Let’s say you’re at Tokyo Station, and you’ve got some time to tour around. You’re either coming from, or eventually heading to Narita Airport. There’s not quite enough time to snatch a hotel room, but too much to haul around your luggage in one of the world’s biggest cities. Maybe this Tokyo luggage storage hack could help out.
It’s worth mentioning that there’s no dearth of coin lockers around Japan. Be it within a train or metro station, in a touristy area, or even a pachinko parlor, they’re a pragmatic presence throughout the country. Naturally, depending on the coin locker’s operator, they might accept contactless cards like Suica or Icoca, coins and/or bills, or all of the above. For this Tokyo luggage storage hack, you’ll need coins.
Tokyo Station is no exception, as there are lockers all around. But I’ve always found it annoying to store my bags before going through the ticket gate. Why deal with the agita of human logjams when there’s a more carefree solution?
On the station level just before the Narita Express tracks, — more easily accessed from the Marunouchi side of Tokyo Station than the Yaesu side — there are groups of lockers. You will know you’re on the right level when you see a pair of Narita Express ticket machines that seem out of place.
For a clearer reference, here’s a photo of said lockers (with a coin exchange machine to the left of the column):
Availing of this Tokyo luggage storage hack might save you some time, and certainly spare you some rush hour guff. I’ve used these lockers a number of times, and rarely see more than a few folks in one go.
