Stand by, SkyTeam members, and Mexico fans alike: two new U.S. routes for Aeromexico are coming your way.
Let’s start with Mexico’s capital, Mexico City.
From 5 June, Delta’s partner south of the border will be inaugurating flights from the city’s main airport (MEX) to Philadelphia (PHL).
Capable of seating 160-166 passengers depending upon the configuration, Aeromexico (AM) will be sending Boeing 737 MAX 8 daily to Pennsylvania’s largest city. Between 2018 and 2019, American Airlines was the first to try out Mexico City from its PHL hub, but clearly it didn’t get ‘er done.
Philadelphia is AM’s second U.S. addition for 2025, following the announcement of a service resumption to Phoenix (PHX) this March.
And how about the other half of those two new U.S. routes for Aeromexico?
Atlanta’s ears are burning.
The world’s busiest airport by passenger count, and undoubtedly Delta’s biggest hub, Atlanta (ATL) is getting a flight to a northern Mexico city, San Luis Potosí (SLP).
In addition to being relatively near some of Mexico’s most pristine natural attractions, the city of San Luis Potosí is also home to a growing car manufacturing industry.
Notwithstanding the relatively small population, the flight is expected to be daily, using one of Aeromexico’s fleet of Embraer 190s.
Will either of these new routes attempt to topple the vast Dallas DFW – Cancun CUN traffic, served by an average of 86 weekly flights back as of 2023?
Nah.
But these two new U.S. routes for Aeromexico signal that there’s plenty of growth potential between these countries.
