Looks like Europe’s first Universal theme park — currently dubbed Universal UK — is in the works. Given its location, it also appears that someone has finally swiped right on London Luton Airport. On that note, if you want to save a bit on visiting, stop by its arrivals hall before continuing on.
Set to open in 2031, Universal UK will be located in the town of Bedford, due slightly northwest of both London, and Luton. Idealists expect that the project will add 28,000 jobs, be they in tourism, food & beverage, construction, or AI. According to current plans, in addition to the park, there will be a 500-room hotel, and a mixed-use shopping, dining, and entertainment center.
According to Bedford Today, the 476-acre complex might be able to pull in around 8.5 million visitors during its first year of business. Wouldn’t you be excited to sit in traffic just to visit an amusement park?
I’m guessing Luton will eventually introduce express buses to the park entrance, but what’s going to happen with Thameslink? Might they get in on the fun, and add some express lines from Gatwick Airport? /off armchair railfan

Speculative questions notwithstanding, what kind of attractions do you expect to see at Universal UK? Think there will be one where people are just queuing to queue?
As much as standard issue nostalgia almost roped me in to visiting Super Nintendo World in Japan, that Kool-Aid is still on the table.
