If you’re fixin’ to add a new airport code to your roster, Laughlin, Nevada might have one of the best.
Laughlin Bullhead International Airport — which, by the way is in Arizona — goes by the IATA code of IFP. Without diving into a sea of clichéd guesses, those three letters stand for

With the tackiness settling, let’s get on with the big news for Laughlin.
Florida-based Southern Airways Express is in negotiations to start seasonal flights to Los Angeles (LAX).

I’m only familiar with them through having flown Sun Air Express, an airline that they bought in 2016. For a brief backgrounder, Southern Airways Express is a stickler for Essential Air Service routes, particularly in the Midwest, Arkansas, and Missouri. They also own Hawaii-based Mokulele Airlines, which they purchased in 2019.
Using 9-seat Cessna Grand Caravans to ply the twice-daily Laughlin route, ticket prices are expected to average $280…one-way.
Ultimately, Southern Airways Express gets the last laugh, since it is guaranteed annual revenue of $3.7 million.
I have never visited the city, but do know that it’s around a 1.5 hours-drive from Las Vegas. This would also be the closest commercial airport to the retirement area of Lake Havasu, Arizona.
