Good news for many passengers traveling between the United States and Taiwan: a new EVA Air Southwest interline agreement has been announced.
But what exactly does interline mean, and whom does this help?
Let’s say you want to fly from Taipei TPE to Las Vegas LAS. EVA Air can get you across the Pacific, and Southwest can get you to Las Vegas. But EVA Air doesn’t fly its own metal to Vegas, nor does Southwest head to Taiwan.

With this brand-new EVA Air Southwest interline agreement, you are now able to book a TPE-(U.S. hub)-LAS itinerary only having to check-in once. This also means your luggage will be checked through to the destination.*

*For now, this only works through four EVA Air transit hubs: Seattle SEA, San Francisco SFO, Los Angeles LAX, and Chicago ORD. Not to mention, when coming from Asia, you will still have to pick up your bag at the first U.S. port of entry, then place it back on the belt after immigration.

Nevertheless, it’s a good step towards making travel a bit easier for many TPAC (Transpacific) fliers, particularly those heading west across the big pond.
