If you have bus gates — and I’m sure you do — then perhaps these new Singapore Changi satellite gates are doing something to slightly improve the experience.
Don’t get your hopes up too much. There is still very much a bus involved. Come to think of it, for many passengers, this newfangled design is more vexing.
But for those who are using wheelchairs, walkers, canes, strollers, etc., this marks something of an improvement.
At these new Singapore Changi satellite gates, a bus from one of the main terminals brings passengers to a separate building; the one such building currently in use is capable of boarding up to two airplanes.
Crucially, at this satellite structure there is one long ramp to one of the two planes. Oddly, I don’t see mention of an elevator anywhere. I guess the gentle climb aspect of the ramp is the “grin and bear it” substitute.
In other words, for rain and storms, there’s now shelter. But what’s the breathing space like for two full aircraft?
